Alterations + additions to accommodate a family with young children

Sited in an area of some heritage significance, the existing house is one of a number built by the War Services Commission on an estate just after World War 2. Typically single storey, timber framed and lined in weatherboard, these homes are capped by low pitched gable roofs which reflect the efficient linear sequence of the rooms underneath.

The proposed design locates the private spaces towards the front in the existing house. The new addition uses a new gable roof as a device to plan and shape the character of the new living areas and their connection with the north facing rear garden.
